I Spent 24 Hours In A Swedish Ice Hotel

- HELLO FRIENDS!! Welcome to our next installment of our nordic/Scandinavian travel trip! After taking a warm bath in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland - I thought - let’s chill out a bit - literally - and head to the original Ice Hotel in Northern Sweden! Yes, this hotel is made completely out of ice and snow, and it melts and gets rebuilt every year - and yes, people actually sleep in here!! I'm very interested by *strange hotels* and after our trip to the Underwater Hotel last year, when I heard of the ICEHOTEL - I figured, we better check it out. So, after a brief moment being stuck in Iceland, we headed to the ICEHOTEL to investigate & spend the night - and hopefully not get cryogenically frozen like Walt Disney's head. What do you guys think?? Would you stay here? Where should we go next?
Also - to add on to our disclaimer in the video - "Lapland" is not a technically a shared region, it's a general region that spans across a few different countries!

HELLO FRIENDS!! i hope you enjoyed this trip to the Ice Hotel in Sweden (and also our extended hi-jinks trying to actually **get** to the Ice Hotel)!! Our small stint at the ice bar in vegas couldn’t have prepared us for the bone-chilling-yet-very-beautiful rooms that this hotel had to offer. what do you guys think? pretty **cool**, eh? would you go to a hotel made of ice?? and, where should we go next? ☃also - to add on to our disclaimer in the video - "lapland" is not a technically a shared region, it's a general region that spans across a few different countries! sorry for any confusion there!
The robot hotel would be so neat to see what that experience is like!
Glad to see you posting more often!
You should go to a Sephora, Lush, or bath and body works hotel
:) loved it
Omg saf you are the queen of hotels, travel, and ESclips. Ilysm ❤❤❤
I can’t wait for We Stayed In A Hotel On Mars 👹
simplyyyyyy
SimplyWorldwide!! 😎
LOL
Hi Simply, love you ❤❤💅🏻💿
@lol what for what pls
I’m sorry, but the “hey sweetie, I’m gonna have to borrow a glove to drink this” and safiya’s response of “left or right?” with a smile on her face was just so wholesome and pure. I just love them so much.

I think he said "Safiya"
@Evan Devereaux a lot of people actually love their spouses and treat them kindly my friend :, )
@Raneem Tipu sarcasm
What gets me is that they rebuild the hotel every year. That's dedication
Facts
It's probably money to be fair
@Kimbrolyy Probably. But dedication nonetheless 😁
Money 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
ok
Honestly I think I just enjoy watching Tyler and Safiya enjoying themselves at this point.
I agree! I’m loving the vlog vibe
ok
ok
They could do literally anything and I’d still watch it
sounds like y'all had an eventful trip! glad you stayed optimistic through the setbacks ❤the ice hotel looked amazing
hi
hi yt :)
Even ESclips commented on this video, love that for saf!
Who's running the channel.
Its pretty common knowledge that the hotel gets re-built every year, but the funny bit to me is that they start building it 30 days before the hotel is set to open. Meaning that when you book your room, the hotel you're booking for doesn't even exist yet.
Honestly, I'd be perfectly happy if you guys transitioned this into a travel channel. I love watching you two go on an adventures.
Nah I like them just doing random things
For real, these travel videos have been some of my favorite videos they’ve ever done.
omg i would miss bad makeup science tho! that’s the joy of having multiple series
I think the randomness is what makes her channel so fun. If she sticks to a niche it will get old I feel
Agreed, the past stuff ran its course, at least for me
As a Swede, this video made me smile the whole way through. A little bit bummed I missed you guys, I work at the IKEA you visited! 😅 But I hope you enjoyed your stay, I’m loving this little series! ❤
So cool!
Fun fact: most sculptures are stored in a big freezer-like thing so they don't have to recarv everything year after year!😊
Must be great for the environment
Safiya I just wanna say I'm so amazed by how calm and accepting you and Tyler were when the snow storm shifted your plans. Even though you had the places booked and itineraries planned (not cheap!), you 2 accepted the outcome, moved on, and still tried to make the new situation the best you could.
I strive to have a mentality like yours one day!
Please do remember that that's what you've seen. They may have had moments where they were quite stressed about it but they obviously didn't film
Safiya and Tyler are so humble, these videos are so comforting.
ok
ok
As another half-Dane, I just want to say that I totally chuckled when you said you’d only ever stared angrily at Sweden from Kronborg in Helsingør, because I literally did the exact same when I was there, haha. 😄
*for context, Denmark and Sweden have a friendly rivalry with each other*
Add Norway in there and you have the Scandinavian rivalry trifecta :)
Friendly?! Denmark still has a law allowing people to hit anyone who walks over the ice from Sweden to Denmark with a stick. Still haven’t gotten over a war that ended in the 1600s. But for real, if anyone from outside Scandinavia dares make fun or threaten them, we band together. It’s like siblings
First a capsule hotel, then an underwater hotel, now an ice hotel. You guys need to do an extreme hotel bingo card 😂
Agree😂
I third!
Fourth!
Lava hotel 😂
Such a good idea!
The ice hotel is drawing me in, as a postmenopausal woman whose body decided to act like an oven on high broil, the ice hotel might be the only place I could get a decent night sleep without waking up in a pool of sweat. So glad you both had the chance to go there it’s such a beautiful place.
@Mallory Kane Once you're on the far side of menopause, it's great!!! But there were a couple of years where an ice hotel would really have come in handy!
Another member of Safiya's menopausal fan club checking in!
As someone who always sleeps with a fan on this also seems like a great thing to have on the bucket list. Doing a sauna and a hot shower after that has got to be one of the best feelings ever!
Bioidentical hormones are a game changer😊
Tyler calling Stockholm the “Venice of the North” was not only accurate but also adorable😊
i love that you touched on the between-destinations travels in your vlogs. it is rare that youtubers who produce quality content highlight the bad parts
It's a bummer the weather made you miss some of your activities, but as a Stockholm native it was a lot of fun seeing you guys gallivanting around the familiar streets. Peak moment seeing Tyler appreciate a kanelbulle, honorary Swede status right there :3 And of course always down for a bit of banter with our dear neighbours from the south, who definitely would fail with those cannons since we'd obviously send in the Moose brigade first and send em running in fear.
And we’d… hit you with sticks… you might win that one. But honestly kanelbuller is absolutely delicious
@Astrid Hannestad Thank you for the laugh
Next time you’re in Stockholm I’d definitely recommend seeing the vasa ship. It an almost perfectly preserved 17th century ship that went down on its maiden voyage without making it out of the harbour
And as a Dane, I really appreciated the jab at swedes. We’re always ready, and actually still have a law that it’s okay to hit any swede who walks across the ice on the sea between Denmark and Sweden
My Norwegian heart loves the jabs at the Swedish as well. Norway and Denmark were always the best of allies so it makes sense.
@MissCaraMint nothing brings people together like hate of Sweden
Oh yeah, the vasa ship is AMAZING ! I went there during a city trip to Stockholm with a friend and we were mesmerized ! Didn't had the time to do all the floors of the museum but it was awesome !
@Astrid Hannestad True, but only we in the Nordic family are alowed to do it. If it’s say America or Spain or whatever then you best believe Sweden is suddenly our best friend ever. It’s like siblings.
@MissCaraMint exactly. Only we can hate them
I love how wholesome their relationship is even amongst a stressful situation Tyler's like hey I need a glove and she's like left or right which one that's cute
I was searching for this comment!
#goals
that was such a sweet little moment 🥹🥹
Cel❤❤❤❤❤❤
Dear editors, could you have the pop ups stay longer so we can read them in time? I keep missing info that I want to read!
Actually love this channel and you guys so much! Keep doing what you're doing, you're the only ESclipsr that I've watched EVERY single video you've posted!! ❤
I could watch safiya stay at a motel 6 and still be entertained 😊
I hope you enjoyed your stay
Nice
Timebucks wabshad nice
Beautiful
nice
👍
As a Stockholm adjecent Swede, I would say that the ABBA museum, fika, Gamla stan and a ferry is probably the most important things to do in Stockholm so good job! There are a couple of more cool museums and stuff, but with the limited time I would say the essential things were done.
Personalky I would have picked the Vasa museum over the Abba one.
Jag med.
Safiya’s voice narrating these videos give the trips even more of a chill vibe I love it 😀
Saf asking “left or right” when Tyler needs a glove is the pinnacle of marriage
That was literally so sweet. No hesitation!
18:54 :')
When he called her sweetie my heart melted (pun intended)
That was cute.
@Savannah GuenziI thought he said safiya?
There's no way I wouldn't end up in a wimp room 🥲 I admire you for surviving the night AND getting up in the middle of the night and finding your way to the bathroom without contact lenses. You guys are superheroes, really.
for real. my script is way too high for that. i'd be trying to open walls as though they were doors. on a side note if saf is consistently not taking her lenses out she may look into night and days as they're rated for 30 day and night wear. most comfortable lenses i've worn but i still usually take them out at night. if i sleep in them i'm ok waking up with them unless i'm dehydrated then they can be a bit blurry.
At first this sounds crazy to adult me but then I remembered growing up in Michigan when I would build snow forts and literally nap out there. It was so relaxing seeing the sky peek through the snow roof, this seems like such a fun experience.
Also, it's super nice that they have the emergency room. With my anxiety, anytime I go somewhere, especially overnight, I always have to have an exit strategy.
Plus here in Michigan we make the kids go outside for recess at school as long as it is at least 15°F outside. So 20°F in a hotel room for sleeping with a nice cozy sleeping bag sounds just fine.
I survived the deadly 2021 Texas freeze that killed 246 people. My place was hovering just below 40 F with no water and I made it about 40 hours before I could get out, so I can't imagine being in a 20 F room for the night--flashbacks! And, edit: I have lived in cold, snowy places before.
@erin pedigo -- It's a different situation when you have cold temperatures in Texas, because your houses are not usually built for that. I've read that a lot of your furnaces run on electricity instead of gas since you don't need to use them as often. The pipes in your walls might not have insulation around them to protect against the cold, so it would be easy for them to burst if you don't keep the water running at a trickle in cold weather. And even if you have warmer clothes and winter coats, you're just not used to those temperatures.
I love how wholesome their relationship is even amongst a stressful situation Tyler's lik
There are already thousands of comments so I doubt anyone will see this, but as an Idahoan, I am sooo excited that the potato Air B&B is on Saf and Tyler's list! 🥔😄
I love this travel series!
This should be a nice location to add to my must visit bucket list, traveling is just so much fun, I am really happy I was introduced to mr Robert Andrew, I must say, financially he turned my story around
As a fellow lover of travels and adventure and as someone who has worked with mr Robert Andrew I totally understand how you feel
Investment with him has been my major source of income since I retired
Mr Robert Andrew is gaining popularity as everyday passes
You’re totally right friend, if only I knew him sooner, my life would have been filled with adventures, well the important thing is that I am benefiting and making profit with his help and I am very happy I know him
Hello everyone, I am a Bitcoin trader but I have been on the losing side for quite sometime now, this guy can help me right ?
a capsule hotel, an underwater hotel, and now an ice hotel? what’s next 😳
Space hotel
"We stayed in a hotel inside of an active volcano"
A fire hotel, a floating hotel, and an underground hotel
Floating hotel
“We stayed in the potato hotel in Idaho”
Safiya's channel is slowly turning into a travel channel and I'm very much ok with that
I love how you guys talk to each other. Your commentary is so cute and refreshing. Like you're always paying attention to each other no matter what. It warms my heart. Love you both!!
Are you kidding me?! I've been following you for years and I'm swedish. I thought I'd never experience this moment, you guys going to sweden ✨️✨️
Thank you for showing what it is like when your travel plans don't work out! Being a travel agent, it happens! But instead of getting angry over the situation, you both make the most of it!
Wow I never knew about all the different art rooms, so beautiful. The inside truly looks so magical now I wanna go there
As an Idahoan, I would be absolutely thrilled if you stayed in our potato hotel and made a vid on that! 😄
I love the whole design of the ice hotel, and the beautiful carvings are just so * chefs kiss * It's too bad you missed out on the other events, but I think the video came out great!
I can't wait to see the next vid! 💕
As a Swede I was not prepared for those English pronunciations of towns 😭 I love it
Same here lmao she tried
Please continue the travel videos so I can live vicariously through you 😭
NO IM A SWEDE, AND IM SO SAD I MISSED YOU GUYS. I’ve been watching you for about 4 years now and it would’ve been so cool to finally meet y’all irl :((
I love that the broken ice cream machines at Mc Donalds are a international tradition. :D
Besides, great video as always, top-notch content.♥
In israel they aren't broken LOL😂
Very Lucky. In Germany they are broken 90% of the time. 😅
I heard they aren't actually broken, they're being cleaned which takes actual hours because they have to defrost the ice-cream then refreeze it afterwards but that's too much to explain to every customer who asks so the staff just simplify it to "it's broken"
omg safiya and tyler are just so cute together!! love watching them travel the world exploring cool places. this travel series has been so much fun to watch
Safiya and Tyler are so humble, these videos are so comforting.. I can’t wait for We Stayed In A Hotel On Mars .
Love that you guys came to Sweden and hope you come again. 😍 Love also the fact that if you hadn't written out Kiruna, I would have that you went somewhere else, since I just heard Safiya pronounce Kiruna as Corona. 😆
The pronunciations of all the Swedish towns sent me everytime. She tried her best at least haha
It is so fun as a swedish person to hear the pronunciations and see places I know from such a big American youtube Chanel that I watch all the time. For some reason swedish people get so hyped by these types of things😅
i remember watching them when I was little and now im almost an adult and they’re still together and happy makes me believe there really is a person right for you. they’re so cute and i Can tell theyre in love and passionate.
I want to shout out whoever has been doing the graphics for your videos for the last few months! The maps of the Vegas strip, Blue Lagoon, Ice Hotel, and Safiya’s FACE have not gone unnoticed😊
Agreed
i second this!
I'm Swedish but I live more in the middle of Sweden and my dream is to go there! It looks so magical! Then hearing they have weddings there omg if I ever get married that's where I wanna do it!
Such a bummer that you guys missed some of your vacation days. Beautiful place and def can see all the work you guys are putting in.
Always wanted to visit this Ice Hotel, my family and friends dont understand why and think I'm mad but it looks awesome to me ! I prefer being cold rather then being hot, rather go somewhere like this then Spain any day
These resort videos are increadibly high quality, and very enjoyable to watch!
The room named after a Shakespeare play being Safiya's favorite is extremely on brand.
I'm kind of surprised that the art ice rooms vs the regular ice rooms are only about an $80 difference. If I'm already forking over 700 dollars to stay here, I'd definitely go for one of the special ones.
That is exactly what I thought!!
they’re probably always booked out 😭
They couldn't pay me to stay there 😂
Honestly you only actually sleep there, and they seem to be able to look at every other hotel room before they were used. All look awesome, but you won't see the art in your sleep haha
@IchhabeKeineAhnung 2 Yes, them, but they probably made special arrangements to be able to access everything for a video. Normies like us can't get that.
I greatly appreciate the work that you do and the smiles that you always put on my face
I hope you guys got to sleep for like 2 weeks straight after all your traveling! It looks so fun but soooooo exhausting 😢
Stockholm is a beautiful city! They’ve been to all of these incredible places that most people can only dream about!
This was so interesting to watch. Literally entertaining throughout, loved the positive vibes.
I like how’s there’s no set style of videos from saf. She just does whatever video she wants to make and they’re all good too! ❤
Id argue there's a definite style, but she doesn't limit herself to any one singular niche. its like variety fashion and lifestyle all in one - from a layman's perspective? Idk but I love it all~
no matter what saf does the videos always have so much info and she really goes into detail with everything! my adhd is bad with long videos yet i can always finish one of hers!
completely agree with the other comments, her set style is getting super nerdy deep in sharing the history and details of whatever it is she's doing, which i love
It’s so insane to watch y’all walk through Stockholm while i’m just thinking “hehe I walk there to school”
Loved the way you said Kiruna 🤣 Jukkasjärvi was closer in pronunciation.
We visited IceHotel 365 last year, and also took the Ice Carving experience. As You noted, not easy at all. The week before, our teacher/guide had the Crown Princess and her husband as students. They were staying in the Art Suite her brother, Prince Carl Philip designed, The Midsummer room. Apparently her father, The King came to visit without having booked in advance, and also wanted to stay, but he had to leave without staying, since the hotel was fully booked!
You guys are sooo sweet!! I love all your videos and travels! I watch these videos often with my dad but they actually remind me of my partner and I, I can't wait for the two of us to go on our own trips! 😊
You know it’s a good day when safiya posts
Pin pls!
honestly! 🎉❤
Frrr
She is practically the only ESclipsr that I have post notifications turned on for 🤩
I gasp and get so happy when she uploads!
As a polar bear who loves the cold ac fans blasting and on a cold waterbed, I definitely would love sleeping here. Vicariously living
This was fascinating! Thanks for another great and fun video!! You guys are SO COOL ;D
This looks sooo cool (in many ways)! I'm Swedish but I've only been to the Ice Bar in Stockholm, in the middle of July, such extremes! They kept it cool by making you go through different layers of protective doors before the actual bar. And they suit you up with great warm clothes.
OH MY GOD, EVEN THE MCDONALD’S ICE CREAM MACHINE IS BROKEN IN OVERSEAS LOCATIONS 😂 geez, it’s become like an international thing… Anyway, that hotel looks freaking sick, I personally get cold way too easily so I wouldn’t stay there, but I’d totally spend the day exploring it! ❤️
Did you see Johnny Harris's video on that?
Wowwww I haven't been to this ice hotel! That's crazy! But the ice sculptures look amazing!! I'm not sure if I would stay in one, but it looks pretty amazing!
Not sure if it’s editing. But I love how calm and chill they are. I will freak the hell out. cancelling flights and missing connection flight. Love them.
They probably freaked out at first but in the long run you can’t change what happened. It’s out of your control so might as well go with it. There’s no point in getting mad.
@Natalie Temple Tell that to my mother.
@MissCaraMint it’s a lot easier said than done. My dad gets very upset when plans change. I told him one day that this is out of his control so adjust accordingly and move on and he exploded at me and said this could’ve been prevented and proceeded to blame me and my mom for this. I went on to say that I have no control over airlines and they aren’t going to change shit because one person complained. They wouldn’t change it even if 10 thousand people complained.
Ah, was my dream a few years back to sleep at the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. Looks amazing and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Sweden.
Also, you had fika!! Yum!
"It's about noon, so we have about 2 hours of daylight left" summed up Sweden pretty well! Between December-January, it's dark between 3 pm to 10 am.
Another great addition to your series! My students read a story about ice hotels, and I found it interesting. It was nice seeing what it's really like. Your adventures are always fun, and you two make such a great couple! ❤
You know Saf and Ty have wormed into your brain when in response to them saying lingonberry tastes like enhanced cranberry you think "is this enhanced?"
Oh my gosh I love the room you stayed in so much!!! The snail was so cute. (Also that shot of you both wiggling your feet in the sleeping bags made me smile a lot)
Safiya angrily looking at Sweden over the channel is the most Danish thing I've heard her say 😂
It truely is.
So true 🤣🤌🏼
Those art rooms looked incredible. Your mushroom room felt very alice in wonderland to me. So cool!
My heart melted when Saf got exited about the flower room!! So wholesome🥰
One thing to note about that flower room (the midsummer room) is that the designer of this room is the Swedish Prince Carl-Philip.
Love the video Safiya, Tyler and crew! As a Swede and someone who lives in Lapland (northern Sweden) and one of the Sámi people, I'm glad you visited Sweden, Buerie båeteme ("Welcome" in the Southern Sami language). :D
Just a smal change of the description of Lapland in the video:
Lapland is a big area in northern Sweden, it's Swedens biggest province. That province borders with, Jämtland, Ångermanland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten other provinces in Sweden. Lapland also borders with Norway to the west and Finland to the north. You showed in the video a map of Sápmi, not Lapland.
Sápmi is the land of the Sami people and that area or "country" covers the northern part of Sweden, Norway, Finland and a small part of Russia (the Kola Peninsula). They have all diffrent names in several different languages but the common name is Sápmi in one of the many sami languages.
Technically, the ice hotel is in Sapmi so you are not. The ice hotel is in both Lapland and Sápmi.
Wanted to clear things up with the differences between the two names. Hope you all understand my very short and disorganized explanation. :D
My brain needs to know how they wired the electrical into the ice hotel…I need to see the process. That is the most impressive part of the whole thing tbh. Then they let it melt in the summer with all the electrical 😱 WOAHhhhhh
My close friend worked at the ice hotel as a chef and a costumer canceled their room in last second. Guess who got to sleep there for free 😎
Safiya and Tyler making a 2 AM pee run together without their contacts was so cute haha😂
That's why I use glasses year round.
marriage goals fr
@John DoDo Doe I mean all you have to do is to always have your glasses by your bed. Then it doesn’t matter is you use contacts during the day or not, you always have glasses as backup during the night.
I'm assuming they typically would have glasses at hand, but things were a little trickier in the ice hotel-brrr!
Wow! I didn’t even know this ice hotel existed. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us. I love living vicariously through you two! 😊
It kinda of reminds me of the Snow Castle in Yellowknife NWT, Canada. It’s built on the ice, starting as soon as the ice is thick enough and is finished around early to mid February. It has murals, an indoor stage and a snow sculpture competition just outside. There’s no ‘hotel’ but it’s still pretty cool.
Nope nope nope nope.....too cold. I was shivering just watching you two. I would have ended up in the lobby. What an experience, though! So glad you shared this! The overall surroundings were beautiful! Too bad you couldn't go snowmobiling! That would have been fun! Looking forward to your next adventure!!
i love how much effort you guys put into these videos, all of us appreciate it
I love your videos. They’re like a breath of fresh air 🙌🏾
For what it's worth: as a long-time follower and a Sámi person, I did appreciate the inclusion of the term Sápmi when explaining what Lapland is, even if it was just a text footnote.
For those who do not know, Lapland, and particularly the term Lapp or Laplander for Sámi people (the indigenous people of northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia), is derogatory. Lapland being the land where Lapps come from. We prefer to be called Sámi and the land area Sápmi. But the fact that Lapland is still the name of the region geographically is a political issue, and that is unfortunately the name as far as maps are currently concerned.
Either way, I do appreciate the attempt at inclusivity. I sincerely hope you guys were able to learn about the Sámi people while in Kiruna and in northern Finland (since I think that video will be about the northern lights?).
+
+
*not more "indigenous" than any other ethnic Swedish person though, as Sami settled in Sweden in like the 1500's
❤
Norway doesn't use the term "Lapland" so I was sort of confused when I heard it
My joy when you read the plaque and said “mushroom” turned into just absolutely wonder and delight when you walked in!!!🤩🤩🍄🍄
Ahhh!!! So cool!
The fact there was only one frozen reference and not a single fortress of solitude one, shows great restraint from Saf! I'm impressed!
That was beyond ‘cool’ 😂 so fun to watch and I should take notes at how you guys manage stress and rearrangement of plans! I bet you were disappointed on missing out on those activities but seeing you still enjoying your trip nonetheless is great and shows nothing should get in the way of a good time. Loved it
When you said schlep, I was like “May is Jewish American heritage month!” 😊 For those who don’t know, schlep is Yiddish!
I loved this video! Really interesting to see all the rooms, especially the art rooms! It's so cute seeing you two have fun in whichever video you create ❤ please dont feel like you have to video all the time though, those in-between rest days sound like they would have been helpful ❤
Safiya quoting the "don't make me sing" SNL sketch while standing on a stage in an ice chapel in a country across the world is somehow the most on-brand thing I've seen
ok
I love your videos I like how you talk about the ice hotel the whole time giving all the good details it makes the video more enjoyable ❤
I strongly recommend coming to Estonia! There are very awesome marshes and hiking trails, an underwater old prison complex where you can dive (even at night!), a restaurant with a medieval experience in the capital's old town, and much more! This is where you MUST go!!
I love ESclips because I get to see videos of people do stuff I’d never do. I’m a chronically cold person, so to pay to bed in a cold hotel would be a nightmare for me. It’s so beautiful though! Thanks for the content.
This place looks awesome and you guys did a great job filming.
-7 without wind is beautiful. I do a lot of winter camping here in Canada so I think I could handle this! Thanks for sharing such a cool experience with us all😊
As cool as this hotel is, the cutest part of this video is Tyler calling Saf sweetie when asking for a glove. Sweetest thing ever, I love these two so much.
This is the comment I was looking for! The way Saf’s face just immediately lit up in agreement. Priceless.
I'm pretty sure he said Safiya
@Lysca if u open the closed captions it says sweetie!
